Back in the habit.
Blogcation is over, children! I have reliable internet at my new apartment and I am back in the academic way so dust off your bookmarks button and get ready for me to probably update a few times each week.
All three of my classes met today so I have the introductions out of the way and I have all the info I need to buy my books and notepads tomorrow. For those playing along at home, my schedule goes as follows:
Monday -- 9-10 Physics III, 11-1 Linearity, 2-4 Numerical Methods
Tuesday -- 11-12 Physics III, 6-9 Physics III lab
Wednesday -- 9-10 Physics III, 11-1 Linearity, 2-4 Numerical Methods
Thursday -- no classes
Friday -- 9-10 Physics III, 11-1 Linearity
Physics III comprises introductions to optics, special relativity and quantum mechanics; Linearity is a math course typically taken by physics and engineering majors that covers multivariate calculus and differential equations (typically the next two courses in the math sequence) plus linear algebra (full of useful tools for solving complicated applied math problems); Numerical Methods is a computer programming-oriented math elective.
Some good news is that I may not have to buy a book for all three classes. My physics professor isn't happy with our assigned text because he feels like it doesn't go into enough rigor but I will likely buy it because the modern physics text that I have been borrowing from Al is pretty old and I may miss a few updates. My linearity professor doesn't care for the texts he has to use because there aren't any texts for the course as he would like to teach it - there are only texts of differential equations, texts on multivariate calc and (worthless) texts on linear algebra - so I may be able to get by with the resources I have cobbled together over the past few years from friends. Lastly, the text for Numerical Methods can be downloaded for free.
I am slowly chipping away at organizing my stuff in the new apartment and I feel like there must be a yard sale in my not-too-distant future. My parents will be either proud or horrified to know that I just recycled every single yogurt container I could find.
